First Grade Information:
Parent/Teacher Relationships: I believe a good parent/teacher relationship is important for maximum school success. Throughout the year, I will communicate through notes, email, phone calls, monthly newsletters and calendars. You may call me anytime at school with any questions or concerns you may have. Please leave a message if I do not answer and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Please sign up for REMIND as soon as possible. Directions are attached to this packet!
Transportation: Please send a note to school or call if your child is going home a
different way than he/she normally does.
Take Home Folder: Please look in your child’s backpack every day. I will send all school news by way of your child’s folder. This folder will come home daily and is to be sent back each day. Please send all notes, money, and other important information in the take home folder.
Illness: The question of when to keep your child home is often a difficult one, especially when decisions must be made first thing in the morning and arrangements for them to be taken care of. It is very important to keep your child home if he/she is ill. Keeping your child home helps make them more comfortable and prevents others in our school and classroom from becoming ill and missing instruction. If your child does have an illness, please let the school know right away, especially if we need to send home an exposure sheet.
Recess: We will go outside everyday weather permitting. Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather. Please label clothing items.
Birthdays and Treats: Birthdays are WONDERFUL! A special store bought snack may be sent to school on your child’s special day. Birthday treats are appreciated but certainly not expected. We will celebrate summer birthdays in May.
Book Orders: Book order forms will be sent home once a month. Please be sure to send them back to school by the posted date. We earn free books for our classroom when you order!
Newsletter and Calendar: A newsletter and calendar will be sent home once a month. They contain all of the information about our class for the month. Please post them somewhere you can check them daily.
Math: We will use Everyday Math curriculum along with daily math problems we will work on as a group. We will work hard learning our addition facts, subtraction and much more!
Reading: We will us Journeys reading curriculum. We will have guided reading
group and learn how to work independently with daily 5 and learning centers.
Homework: Homework will be sent home from time to time. It will need to be returned within two days of being sent home. As a mom, I know nights get busy and sometimes time with family is more
important than sitting and forcing homework on your child. Homework should be fun! Please make it an opportunity for your child to teach you. Ask them about their day and have them explain what they are working on. Reading with your child and to your child is the best thing you can do to foster a lasting love for learning.
I look forward to having your child in my class and working with you to make this a WONDERFUL year!
